Ngamba Island is a chimpanzee sanctuary on Lake Victoria located 23km off shore from Entebbe mainland. It’s a beautifully forested tropical island of almost 100 acres in size and is endowed with over 50 different types of vegetation on which the chimps depend.

Chimps can be viewed from a raised wooden platform or a walk to the chimp forest for a closer contact with these primates. Chimp walks in the forest will however require certain medical conditions to be fulfilled including; Vaccination against Hepatitis A&B, Measles; Meningococcal meningitis (menomune vaccine), polio, Tetanus, yellow fever and a negative TB test prior to arrival. There are age restrictions: minimum age is 18 and the maximum is 65.


  • After an early breakfast, receive briefing for visiting the island with JGI management at their offices in Entebbe. Boat from Entebbe mainland to Ngamba Island.
  • Take half a day forest walk with the chimps – a special day for you to get close to your relatives in the jungle. You will have your lunch on the island.
  • After lunch, you could go for chimps again or go for bird watching in the neighboring village. Early evening, relax at the shores of Lake Victoria enjoying the natural gentle breeze as you are entertained by the aquatic animals singing. You could spend the overnight at the island or return to Entebbe mainland for the overnight.
